The use of water from the municipal system for watering lawns, gardens, flowers, shrubs, trees, or other vegetation as well as any other form of watering is prohibited between the 1st of May and the 1st of September each year, subject to the following exceptions.
Watering is permitted once a day according to the following timetable:
1- With sprinklers or other similar devices from 7.30 p.m. to 9.00 p.m.
2- With an underground sprinkler system that is controlled electronically
from 5.00 a.m. to 6.30 a.m.
Watering timetable
Monday, Wednesday and Friday
In theRuiter (1), Sweetsburg (2) and Vilas (3) districts.
Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday
In the Bruck (4), Davignon (5) and Fordyce (6) districts
Watering with containers is always permitted.
NEW LAWNS, HEDGES OR NEW LANDSCAPING
By exception, and upon the obtaining of a permit at a cost of $15.00, a resident may water a new lawn, a new hedge or newly laid landscaping between 7.30 pm and 9.30 p.m. for a period of fourteen (14) days from the date of the permit.
Swimming Pools
The filling of swimming pools is permitted between midnight and 6.00 a.m. at any time but only once a year. Residents requiring additional water may apply for a permit for this purpose.( see Municipal Services)
Vehicles
The washing of vehicles is permitted at any time provided a hose with an automatic shut-off is used, and only that amount of water that is strictly necessary is used.
The washing of vehicles as part of a Car Wash is permitted upon the obtaining of a permit (cost $10.00). Only one permit per day will be issued . (see Municipal Services).
It is forbidden to wash driveways or parking areas with water from the municipal system.
Businesses
Plant nurseries and other similar enterprises selling shrubs, trees, flowers or other vegetation and car washes are not subject to these rules.
Drought or Other Similar Occurences
In the event of a drought or other similar emergency, a breakdown in the water works system, or the need to replenish the municipal reservoir, watering of all sorts will be prohibited. The Technical Director of the city or his alternate are authorized to so advise the population.
FINES
Any breach of these regulations could result in a fine of $50.00 and more.
For any subsequent infraction within a period of 24 months of the initial offence a fine of $150.00 may be levied.
