The City of Cowansville has a force of 24 volunteer firefighters. Four (4) vehicles ensure timely and rapid intervention anywhere within the territory. A team of auxiliaries has been formed in 2006. This team of volunteers will assist the Fire Department, Public works as well as other Emergency Services as needed.

Useful advice from your Fire department

• Install a smoke detector on each storey of your home.
• Have an ABC fire extinguisher (minimum 5 pounds)
  easily visible and accessible.
• Put together an evacuation plan with a meeting point that is
  well known to all members of the household.
• Make sure your electrical appliances are in good working order.
• Make sure that your heating system is properly
  installed and well maintained.
• Avoid deep-frying in a saucepan.
• Keep matches, lighters and other smoking materials
  out of the reach of children.
