The Residential and Commercial Sector

Over the past few years, the City of Cowansville has experienced significant investments in all spheres of economic activity. In 2007, total investments reached $ 20.6 million; this is the second highest total since the city started assembling statistics in 1958. The number of construction permits, 619, is the highest number ever achieved. We can add to these a number of other permits covering subdivisions, minor zoning variations, garage sales etc., for a grand total of 980.

2008 is equally promising when we think of the new residential and institutional projects that under construction and that will come to fruition during the year.

The visual aspects and aesthetics of our main streets will continue to be a major concern over the coming years. The landscaping and beautification activity at the entrances to the city will be pursued and enhanced in the months to come.

Investments in the residential sector reached $9,778,590.00 in 2007, and new construction in the area will add $6,501,430.00 to that figure. The sum of $3,277,160.00 was invested in renovations and renovations. 45 dwellings were constructed in 2007 as compared to 49 in 2006. In total, the industrial, commercial and institutional sectors contributed $10,846,712.00.
